Can you transfer fishing line from one reel to another?

Tie the end of the line on the new spool on the other reel. On the reel that has the line I back the drag all the way down to where line can come off easily. Then just start reeling it in on the other reel.

Do you need to soak fishing line before spooling?

Always prior to spooling up with mono, leave your line submerged in a bucket of warm water. Usually a few hours soaking time will do but I tend to leave mine soaking overnight with the use of a heavy lead to ensure the whole spool of line is under the water.

How much line should be on a spinning reel?

Keep an eye on the reel spool to make sure that the line is filling the spool evenly and fill the spool within 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch from the edge. Too much or too little line will affect the reel’s performance.

Braided line, when treated properly, can be used in the water for years. Monofilament and fluorocarbon do, however, come with what you might call a “shelf life.” Like meat and produce, even if you put it in the refrigerator, these lines will eventually go bad, even if they haven’t been taken out of the packaging.
